Ladywood Outreach Service can provide assessments using a wide variety of tools that educators may use to evaluate, measure and document;

This is not an exhaustive list so please look at all of the assessments we offer below. Assessments take place on site, at your setting and will be completed by an experienced member of Ladywood outreach staff.

Access Arrangements

Assessments are able to be carried out by a qualified specialist assessor to determine whether pupils could be entitled to assistance or further support in formal examinations. Examples of this could include readers, scribes or extra time.

Ace Language Assessment

This assessment is designed to identify children with delayed or impaired language development. The Assessment of Comprehension and Expression 6-11 (ACE 6-11) provides valuable and extensive information about their overall language ability. ACE 6-11 includes items which draw on verbal comprehension, expression and grammar, plus aspects of semantic and pragmatic knowledge, allowing the identification of children with significant and unusual patterns of language development.

Bracken

Bracken is an assessment to understand a child’s receptive knowledge of basic concepts with the Bracken Basic Concept Scale. This can then be used to plan a targeted approach to language development.

British Picture Vocabulary Scale (BPVS)

A leading vocabulary assessment for standard English. The British Picture Vocabulary Scale can:
- Play an important role in assessing a child’s receptive language.
- Identify delays in vocabulary development, informing intervention strategies to help
- Extend vocabulary

Suitable for non-readers and those with additional needs as no reading is required, Responses can be given by pointing or gesture. The assessment is time efficient and can be used as an ideal benchmarking and progress-checking
assessment from pre-school to secondary school. Suitable for Age 3-16 years.

CELF 5 Language Assessment

A CELF 5 assessment (Clinical Evaluation of Language Fundamentals) will evaluate the nature and extent of language difficulties in school children and adolescents. The Clinical Evaluation of Language Fundamentals - Fifth Edition (CELF-5 UK) offers a streamlined, flexible approach to language assessment that reflects today’s diverse population.

The test is cross phase- 5 years 0 months to 21 years 11 months. There are fourteen stand-alone tests and the number administered dependent on age. The test can indicate core, receptive, expressive, content, structure and also can provide a pragmatics Profile to assess social communication skills.

Cognitive Assessment for Multilingual Learners

This assessment contains activities that are designed to investigate barriers to learning that may be being experienced by young people (aged 7-15) who do not have English as a first language. This is an ideal assessment for those pupils who have little or no English but may be experiencing an underlying difficulty.
Activities include scanning, working memory, visual memory, copying, sequencing, visual discrimination, processing and phonological awareness.

Dyscalculia Screening

A Dyscalculia screening test can be administered to determine the likelihood of possible Dyscalculia and to highlight weaknesses with numerosity. It is an early stage of the identification process and a full report with strategies are included to help overcome potential weaknesses and ensure progress.

Dyslexia Diagnostic

Ladywood Outreach are able to offer full comprehensive dyslexia diagnostic assessments. Assessments are very detailed and clearly highlight the strengths and needs related to dyslexia and aim to identify a preferred learning style to help ensure progress. Assessments can be carried out at any stage of a person’s life (from 8 years old through to adulthood).

Dyslexia Screening

A Dyslexia screening test can be administered to determine the likelihood of possible Dyslexia and to highlight weaknesses with literacy skills. It is an early stage of the identification process and a full report with strategies are included to help overcome potential weaknesses and ensure progress.

Irlen Screening / Visual Discomfort Assessment

Irlen Syndrome is a form of visual stress which leads to difficulties with fine vision tasks such as reading and affects 50% of people with Dyslexia. Irlen Syndrome can affect many areas including; academic performance, behaviour, attention and concentration.

Many people with Irlen Syndrome experience visual distortions and/or discomfort when reading and also sometimes in the wider environment. An Irlen screening assessment is available where a detailed report is provided outlining any experienced distortions / discomfort and suggested coloured overlays and wider accommodations. A coloured overlay is also provided after each assessment where need is identified.

This expressive language assessment is used to uncover the length and complexity of spoken sentence structure.

This assessment assesses word finding difficulties that impacts on expressive language.

Peter and the Cat narrative assessment - descriptive profile of the child’s development of key narrative skills.

Test of Memory and Learning

TOMAL2 - Provides the most comprehensive coverage of memory assessment currently available in a standardised form. This assessment allows a direct comparison across a variety of aspects of memory in a single test. This allows the assessment and identification of strengths and weakness around all aspects of memory. This nationally standardised test evaluates general specific memory functions using eight core subtests, six supplementary subtests and 2 delayed recall tasks.

Test of Pragmatic Language-2 (TOPL2)

The Test of Pragmatic Language-2 (TOPL-2) expands the original test for an even more in-depth and comprehensive analysis of social communication in context.
The four principals include: identifying individuals with pragmatic language deficits, determining individual strengths and weaknesses, documenting an individual’s progress and pragmatic language skills.

Wide Range Intelligence Test (WRIT)

This assessment provides a general measure of intelligence (IQ) with user-friendly materials to assess verbal and nonverbal cognitive abilities. It can be used with pupils from the age of 4 and covers an extensive age range. The assessment can help identify both strengths and potential barriers to learning for each individual. Verbal ability, visual ability and a general IQ score are able to be generated and these scores can highlight the progress pupils should be able to make once their barriers to learning are removed.
