WHAT IS COGNITIVE LOAD? - MAKING LEARNING STICKY

Knowledge does not sit as isolated ‘information’ in pupils’ minds it is connected and intertwined. Progress means knowing more and remembering more. Knowledge is generative (or ‘sticky’), i.e. the more you know, the more easily you can learn.

In the training we look at how knowledge is connected in webs or ‘schemata’ and how the curriculum design and opportunities in class can affect this. We discover how working memory, metacognition and vocabulary size relates to academic success, and how the opportunities we provide in school is crucial to help make learning “sticky”.
