Hydrotherapy

Hydrotherapy

There is a purpose built hydrotherapy pool in one of our settings, which is used during sessions and during class-based swimming sessions.  The warm water can help to relax stiff muscles and it can allow children with muscle weakness move more easily and work towards strengthening their muscles.  Water is often a very enjoyable activity for children and provides sensory feedback to their bodies, which helps improve body awareness and control of movement.

Our hydrotherapy offering is targeted at students at Firwood High School, as a part of their therapeutic offer on their EHCP.

There are specialist hoist facilities that enable children with mobility problems the ability to access the pool environment. The warmth of the water allows students muscles to relax, helping them to become more mobile. The water supports student’s weight, which increases the range of movement in your joints. The water can be used to provide resistance to moving on joints helping to build strength.
